I was a little uncertain about working with a consultant, but Susan Kenny immediately put me at ease with her easy manner, good humor, and steady professionalism. I was eager to continue to work with her because of her depth and breadth of knowledge. She walked me through the over-arching strategies of developing a coherent web presence (including e-newsletters, email blasts, and website landing pages), helped me to revise our annual direct mail campaign, and built a database template for tracking responses to promotions. From the details of writing a subscription drive letter to the large strategies of developing a two-year marketing plan, Susan Kenny has a thorough understanding of how marketing and development work from the micro through to the macro levels.

Susan was the chief creative force for all of the Hastings Center’s direct mail and electronic marketing from 2003-2007. She developed our overall journals marketing strategies for both new member acquisitions and renewals but also managed the budget, oversaw the database, provided circulation analysis, professionalized our circulation department, wrote and approved copy, approved design, worked with printers and mail houses, managed staff and oversaw production schedules. We found Susan to be a dedicated, personable, and highly skilled marketer and database expert—one of those rare individuals who truly can do it all.

Working with Susan both focused and clarified for us our mission as a magazine as well as our marketing and audience goals. Susan is warm and flexible as a collaborator, and driving and authoritative as a consultant. It was a pleasure to work with her, and through her focused agenda she helped Tuesday set clear goals for our future. She helped us hone our mission statement, readership objectives and annual traffic concerns. Susan helped us think and talk about the magazine in a way that will allow us to represent ourselves and move forward in a constructive and more critically attune way.
